Aalst Museum of Genever
The Aalst Museum of Genever is an immersive experience museum that highlights the rich history of genever production in Aalst and the broader region. Visitors can discover how genever, once a traditional local craft product, evolved into an important part of the region’s cultural heritage. The museum showcases authentic distillation equipment, old bottles, labels, and tools, illustrating how the production process has changed over the years. In addition, it sheds light on the social and cultural significance of genever — from café life to the role of the distilleries in shaping the cityscape of Aalst.
To enrich the visitor experience, we created a three-part video series for the exhibition in the Aalst museum. This video series provides additional information during the tour and brings the story of genever production to life in an accessible and visually engaging way. Each video corresponds to a specific section of the exhibition and helps viewers better understand the historical context and craftsmanship behind genever. In this way, the museum visit becomes not only informative, but also immersive and interactive.
Why an animated video provides added value
An animated video is an exceptionally powerful tool for visualizing complex or historical processes in a clear and engaging way. In the Genever Museum of Aalst, animation can create a unique bridge between past and present.
- Vivid reconstructions: With animation, old distilleries, machines, and workshops can be brought back to life, even if the original objects no longer exist. This allows visitors to see how the distillation process truly worked in the past.
- Accessibility for all ages: Animation makes the story easy to understand for everyone. Children, young people, and non-native visitors can quickly grasp the essence of the craft through visuals and motion.
- Visualization of invisible processes: Concepts such as the transformation of grain into alcohol or the functioning of distillation equipment are difficult to explain using only text or photos. Animation makes these chemical and technical steps clear and visually appealing.
- Atmosphere creation: Movement, color, and sound can enhance the museum experience by truly immersing visitors in the historical spirit of Aalst’s genever tradition.
- Educational impact: Animation is memorable. Through the combination of story, visuals, and sound, visitors retain information more effectively, which enhances the museum’s educational value.
In short, an animated video helps not only to show, but also to feel and understand the rich story of the Aalst Museum of Genever. It makes history tangible, playful, and memorable — exactly what an experience-driven museum like the one in Aalst aims to achieve.
